We are pleased to announce that this year’s ECS Teacher of the Year is Mrs. Debra Gower.
This award is selected by the faculty and administration annually. Mrs. Gower has over 22 years of teaching experience, having taught at ECS since 2012. She is married to US Navy veteran, retired VA and coal miner Jerry Gower. She shared that history is her favorite subject followed by math. When not teaching, her hobbies include reading and crafts. She brings these affections into the classroom making her a specialist in kinesthetic learning.
Historical fiction is a favorite genre for Mrs. Gower, a love that she passes along to her pupils. Mrs. Gower is an expert at welcoming her class members, whether from ECS or elsewhere, the transition process is flawless with Mrs. Gower. Hands-on learning is her specialty so that often students have so much fun that they don’t realize they are learning. Having put project-based learning into action, Mrs. Gower has served as co-chair of the reading fair, science fair, and history fair. The fruit of her labor is seen in the performance of her pupils, many of which do quite well in various competitions and fairs.
Mrs. Gower is described as friendly, helpful, encouraging, and compassionate. It is no surprise with these attributes that Mrs. Gower automatically engages in mentoring fellow teachers. The gentle and authoritative manner in which she functions is well received. Coworkers consider Mrs. Gower a godly example and role model. Serving at Emmanuel is a privilege and Mrs. Gower is an added benefit.
Congratulations to our ECS Teacher of the Year–Mrs. Gower!
